I’m taking my cat from LA to Vegas, and we are driving there. It’s about 3 hrs ride. I have not gotten him a carrier, and I’m debating whether get a soft or hard carrier? I want it to be comfy enough for him…He is about 9lbs, and is pretty long. I’m looking at a 24inch carrier from Walmart.com. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3391781
any suggestions?

I’d go with a hard carrier, and put something soft in it, like a towel or crate pad.
A large hard carrier with a good pad. It is more solid if he wants to stand up or turn around. You may want to look in a pet store as they have a much better variety.
o man lol i thought you meant something else by hard or soft haha
make it soft where it he dosnt sink in to it but kinda a small bump in the middle
Soft carriers, while comfy, aren’t all that safe. The main reason a cat should be in a carrier is for his/her safety in the car should something happen (and I guess to contain them from sitting in the driver’s lap or on the head rest LOL) so I would go with a nice sturdy plastic one that’s approved for travel.
I personally use an old sweater or blanket, alittle smell of home if kitty needs to be sitting far away.
They have a variety of beds, either made to be used in crates/carriers or just a good size for any crate/carrier, so it’ll be nice and comfy
If he’s never been in a carrier before, try to get it as soon as possible to have it around the house. Keep the door open, have a nice comfy bed/blanket in there, maybe toss some treats or food in there, so he gets used to it and doesn’t freak out when its time to be in it. Cats tend to overreact when it comes to being placed in carriers LOL
Have a safe trip!
That one looks good it would be comfy but i have to say not all that safe. Also soft ones are hard for your cat to move in. I would try to find one that they can see out of better. Seemingly they like that better. When I take my cat to the vet I use a laundry basket with a cover on it and a blanket in it. She usually hates car rides but when i did that she didnt seem to hate it. I think hard would be best but put something soft like a really good pad or a towel in there. I suggest you take her out for a second and hold her when you stop. I hope your kitty is happy and safe.Best wishes.
I have a carrier by Pet Gear called Click N Go Car Seat and Pet Carrier and love it (it’s made for cats up to 15 lbs). It has a base that you click the carrier onto, like a baby seat, so if you have to slam on your brakes or get in an accident the carrier is safely secured on the base (which is secured with your seatbelts). I bought it at PetSmart, but it was a clearance item and I don’t think they carry it anymore. I see that. http://www.dogbedsandcrates.com has it listed online for $39.95. I believe a hard carrier with a nice padding or a thick towel in the bottom is more safe than a soft-sided carrier.
